Situated near the Kenya border, the lake attracts a variety of wildlife around it, seemingly indifferent to the peril it represents.
Serving as a critical breeding habitat for the endangered lesser flamingo, Lake Natron lies nestled beneath Ol Doinyo Lengai – known as the ‘Mountain of God’ – which is an active volcano.

Like any active volcano, Ol Doinyo Lengai poses a risk of eruption, heightening the hazards associated with exploring the visually alluring lake.
Moreover, this 56-kilometer-long body of water takes on a striking pink hue due to the presence of cyanobacteria, a type of algae.
