Experts are cautioning that a highly popular diet promoted by influencers could lead to significant health issues.

We’re all guilty of turning to the internet to explore weight loss strategies.

Yet while striving to discover the ideal diet, social media has become saturated with misinformation and misguided nutritional guidance, further escalated by the increase of fitness influencers presenting themselves as models of health and wellness.

You may have encountered Keto, Atkins, or low-carb dietary plans, but there are numerous other options included in the mix – from fasting to juice cleanses and from plant-based to fully carnivore.

Now, medical professionals in the US have issued a serious warning against one of these so-called fads in particular – the carnivore diet, as promoted by figures such as UFC commentator and podcast veteran, Joe Rogan, and Canadian psychologist, Jordan Peterson.

The diet is straightforward to understand, consisting entirely of meat, fish, and animal products like eggs and dairy, while excluding fruit, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts, and seeds.

Dr. Shaw Baker MD, who authored the book, The Carnivore Diet, claims that consuming nothing but meat ‘saved his life’ while proponents of the diet argue that it assists with weight loss and even relieves chronic health issues.

Peterson reportedly mentioned during a podcast with Rogan that the diet aided him with depression, gastric reflux, and mood swings, while the podcaster stated it helped him shed 12 pounds and address ‘lots of aches and pains’.

However, doctors from the Indiana University School of Medicine are now warning that it could result in a heightened risk of kidney stones, as reported by The Daily Mail.
