Diet sodas
Despite being low in calories, diet sodas are not always the healthier choice.
Bowring’s issue with diet sodas lies with the sweetener, aspartame.
In addition, celebrity nutritionist Sarah Carolides has voiced concerns about the phosphoric acid found in such beverages.
Carolides argues that the acid “enters your bloodstream quickly and causes the pH of the blood to decrease as it is acidic.”
“The blood must then rebalance to be more alkaline again, so evidence suggests that it disrupts calcium absorption, since calcium is a large, alkaline molecule,” she further explained.
Coconut water
This may genuinely take many by surprise since both coconuts and water are beneficial; so why wouldn’t coconut water be?
Bowring clarified, “When out of season, it can pose an issue. It contains a small amount of sugar, but it also has deuterium and can significantly drain your energy over time.”
As per Osmio Water, “Deuterium is a natural element, the heavier form of hydrogen. Elevated deuterium levels in the human body can negatively affect health, leading to chronic fatigue, metabolic disorders, and premature aging.”
Fruit juice
Another surprising entry is fruit juice.
Bowring states that it is “very high in fructose,” which could potentially result in a fatty liver.
Fructose is a natural sugar present in numerous fruits, vegetables, and honey, but excessive amounts can also lead to diabetes, obesity, leptin resistance, and increased uric acid levels, according to Healthline.
