It goes on to say that other biologically significant samples have been taken, including “urogenital material” now under review.
Named in honour of Contender Boats—the long-time supplier of boats for OCEARCH research missions—the shark tracker said the fish.
It also posted a video on Facebook as it grabbed Contender to trail it. “Contender is the biggest male white shark ever caught, SPOT tagged, set free, and presently being studied in the NW Atlantic white shark population!”
Some users had concerns with the shark being captured since it has been said to be for study reasons and traveling 292 miles over 25 days.

Measuring around 19.1 feet long and weighing nearly 2,000 kg, the biggest preserved female great white shark was found.
Usually, however, males are 11 to 13 feet tall and women are 15 to 16 feet tall. These great sea creatures are thought to live around 70 years or even more, a 2014 research discovered. Therefore, given its massive length and bulk, this Contender could be floating in the water for a long time.
Comments on the Facebook video called the shark ‘beautiful’ and an ‘amazing creature’.
