Kendall Bryce has a rare skin condition which causes a painful reaction to water
A woman has revealed that she “cries in pain” every time she bathes or gets caught in the rain, as a result of a rare skin condition.
Kendall Bryce, 25, from Durham in the UK, likens the feeling of water touching her skin to having “a lighter held to her body.”
She suffers from aquagenic urticaria, a rare condition that causes her skin to swell and break out in agonizing hives when exposed to water, which she first experienced at age 15.
Aquagenic urticaria is categorized as “an unusual type of physical urticaria where hives appear after water exposure, irrespective of temperature,” and it is estimated to impact fewer than 250 individuals globally.
The mother of one, who is expecting her second child, describes her life as “a daily struggle” due to the “excruciating” pain she endures while showering or even washing her hands.
Even sipping a glass of water triggers a “burning” sensation, along with rain and humidity, which forces her to schedule her activities according to the weather forecast.

Doctors have yet to discover a cure or any medication that alleviates her suffering.
Kendall shared, “It truly is a daily challenge. I can only bathe or shower twice a week because the pain is so unbearable – I’m always worried about smelling bad.”
She prefers to stay indoors when rain is predicted, but occasionally gets “caught off guard” and experiences a painful reaction.
